The race of the Persians is artificial because these cats come from a long and careful selection practiced by man from the nineteenth century. Its ancestor is the Turkish Angora from Turkey.
From the seventeenth century, the explorer Pietro della Valle fell in love with this cat in the long robe and imports from Asia Minor to make it known in Europe. In 1880, other Angoras were brought to France and England were the subjects selected the shortest and most first round from which the Persians, their beauty gave them a huge success: they spread not only in Europe but also the United States.
The appearance of the Persians today is different from that of their ancestors because the selection has been refined to obtain more hairy cats and more massive.
